About Scott Styles

Scott Styles has 25 years of public, private, international, and boarding school experience teaching students from elementary school through adults in English, social studies, history, psychology, philosophy, and creative writing. He is a Massachusetts-certified teacher in both English and social studies, grades 5-12, respectively, and holds undergraduate and master’s degrees from Princeton and a master’s degree from the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor. Mr. Styles can privately tutor all levels of English, writing, and humanities and has over 20 years of experience with helping high school students develop and edit their own college essays. Mr. Styles has traveled to about 40 countries on five continents and has experience speaking Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese, having traveled to Spain, having lived in Japan, and having taught at international schools in China from 2008-2013.
Furthermore, Mr. Styles has five years of judging and mentoring experience with both National History Day Asia (www.nhdasia.org) and World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) (www.scholarscup.org). In fact, in 2013, the team of middle school students from Dulwich College Shanghai that he privately coached defeated over 250 other teams from around the world to capture the WSC world title in the middle school division.
Mr. Styles has also written and edited articles for educational and governmental institutions and has delivered a research paper for the international network of philosophers of education. He’s also ghostwritten and edited an autobiography and has business experience, having held short-term positions at the following companies: Fidelity Investments, Inc., Edward Jones, Inc., Merck and Co., Meredith and Grew, Inc., and Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver, and Jacobsen.
Mr. Styles is passionate about teaching and education for all students, parents, and stakeholders concerned. In the summer of 2024, Mr. Styles enrolled in and completed the International Educational Consultant’s Association’s (IECAs) Summer Training Institute and is an Associate Member of the IECA.
